Rob James founded and for ten years ran Kimco Exchange Place www.kimco1031.com where he sold approximately 300 retail properties with a combined value of over one billion dollars. Kimco Exchange Place was the single tenant triple net and shopping center brokerage division of Kimco Realty (NYSE: KIM), the nation's largest owner of neighborhood and community shopping centers. Rob was a member of Kimco's Senior Management Review Committee and a Managing Director. He acquired Kimco Exchange Place in 2009 and renamed the business EXP Realty Advisors. Kimco remains EXP's largest client.
EXP Realty Advisors has a database of over 84,000 principals and brokers who specializing in retail, industrial and office investments. There currently are 68 exclusively listed properties on their website www.exp1031.com which averages over 600,000 hits per month. Recent closed sales include Sam's Club, Best Buy, Firestone, Taco Bell, Toys R Us, and Applebee's. EXP also assists 1031 exchange buyers looking for suitable replacement property and provides advanced 1031 exchange tax strategies, including zero cash flow properties.
Rob formerly worked at Newmark Retail Financial Advisors which provided bankruptcy and M&A services to the retail industry. Rob was responsible for real estate valuation and disposition strategy in connection with restructuring activity. He sold 83 Upton's department stores in connection with the company's liquidation and was the court appointed disposition agent for Roberd's Furnature and Joan & David's bankruptcy. His other clients included The Sports Authority, Filenes Basement, The Good Guys, WatchWorld, Swatch, and Lehman Brothers. Prior to Newmark, Rob worked at Kin Properties where he purchased 28 vacant Color Tile properties at bankruptcy auction and re-tenanted them to a variety of retailers.
